Freelance Web Development
Below are some sites I've worked on. Please note that some of these websites are now out of my control and have changed content and/or design. The current website may or may not be the direct result of my work. ALL thumbnails on this page are what the site looked like when I designed it.

American Media Services Internet

American Media Services, a client whom I had previoiusly worked with, recently created an Internet services division and wanted to create a website to showcase their streaming radio stations as well as some of their other Internet capabilities and services.

I used a combination of HTML, CSS, PHP, and Movable Type to create a fun, dynamic site that allows them to press on into the world of Internet streaming with style.

Be sure to visit American Media Services Internet and check out some of their streaming radio stations.

LeftoverChicken.com

Frances Daniel, the owner of Mrs. Marshall's Carytown Cafe, recently began selling her own special recipe barbeque sauce. She created the sauce to be used on chicken dishes of all kinds. And then she had the idea that a website with recipe ideas could help boost the visibility and sales of her new sauce.

I created a website for her based on HTML, CSS, PHP, and Pay Pal's shopping cart system that allows her to post recipe submissions and sell bottles of her sauce. So far, I've been very pleased with the traffic to the site and it's search engine ranking.

New Dominion Real Estate

When I began working with New Dominion, they already had a well designed site created by Scott Layman, but needed someone new to update the site. In the process of updaing their site, I discovered that they wanted a better way to display their home listings on their site. I developed a PHP/mySQL system for them to enter their listings and display them on their site.

Greywalls

Greywalls is a residential development in Powhatan County. Working again with excellent design work by Elevation, the Greywalls site gave me a chance to demonstrate the broad range of skills I've learned over the past year or so. It called for a Flash animation on the front page of the site and then a database-driven (PHP/mySQL) system for collecting information about potential new customers. The result was a really clean and elegant site.

Judith Anderson Art

I took over the creation of Judith's site to showcase her paintings about midway through the process. I optimized her site and enhanced it with CSS goodness, clean html code, and Lightbox for displaying her artwork.

Capitol Mac

The store manager of local Mac shop Capitol Mac contracted me to build them a new site for their store. They wanted to advertise the fact that they do training and support and that they offer a wide variety of products in their shop. They ended up getting one of their employees to complete the site, but my original design elements are in use on the current site. If you live in Richmond and need Mac hardware, accessories or service, give Capitol Mac a call!

Patron Scramble Golf Tournament

MVPGroup, our event marketing and promotions group, heard that I build websites and contacted me to build a site for a golf tournament for their client, Patron Tequila. The site features impressive design work by Elevation Advertising and my HTML/PHP/CSS. We set up a registration system that allows folks to register for the tournament electronically (payments via Pay Pal), email notification, and I also coded an PHP/mySQL waiting list for when all of the slots fill up.

American Media Services

I was contracted by the fine folks at Slay Public Relations to redesign the website for American Media Services, a radio brokerage and development firm based out of Charleston, SC. They wanted their new site to be fresh and easily maintainable. Using Movable Type, I built them a site that features a blog and news system that they can update as often as they wish.

3207 Friars Walk Lane

When we put our townhouse up on the market, I knew that a well-crafted website for the house could help sell it. After all, I knew when we were searching for houses, we looked around online. The idea is that all of our other marketing materials would point folks to the website where they could find floor plans, photos, and directions to the house.

Creations Bridal

One of Olivia's roomates from college purchased a fabric store that specializes in custom-made bridal gowns. The store already had a website, but it was badly in need of a facelift to compliment the new ownership. Olivia and I put our heads together and came up with a simple design that allows Maggie to advertise her store professionally online.

Sarah Rowland

Sarah is an incredibly talented freelance designer that I met at Martin. I had been doing Mac support work for her for years and it turns out that she also needed a web site to show off her talents. She came up with a design (using Quark) and I created the site to her specifications. The great thing about her site is that it pushed me deeper into CSS design than I had ever gone before. It was fun and I learned a lot.

Home Pro Remodeling

Home Pro Remodeling has been improving homes in the Richmond area since 1989. However, they didn't have an online presence. They asked for a website where they could upload photographs of their work for prspective clients to view. I built them a clean, simple site and installed Gallery for them to manage their photo collection.

Kathleen Markowitz

Kathleen found me through a previous website client and wanted a website to showcase some of her paintings. I built a simple but effective site that allows her to show the world her work.

Martin Agency Enduro Racing

A few Martin folks decided it would be great to have a Martin-sponsored enduro racing team. They contacted me to build and maintain a site for them that included photos, news, and videos. It's been a blast working on the site, and the car.

Our Wedding Website

Olivia and I got married in October of 2004. To help our friends and family keep up with our wedding planning and activities, we created a website. The site featured a blog (Powered by Movable Type), directions to the event, and a nifty JavaScript-based countdown to the big day.

Virginia Bertholet

This is a portfolio site that I built for Paul's wife Virginia, who used to work at Martin. She wanted a fun, professional site to show off some of the work she's done over the years. This site has many pictures and movies.

Paul Bertholet

I was contacted by the husband of one of my coworkers to develop a website to showcase his artistic work. Paul does fine art: portraits, murals, and paintings. We wanted a very simple and elegant site where he could show off his work.

CustomTacos.com

This is, by far, the work I am most proud of. The site was about 2 years in planning and about 6 months in construction. It was designed from the ground up specifically for Toyota Tacoma owners and enthusiasts. The site includes many interactive features such as a discussion forum (powered by vBulletin), news system (powered by Movable Type), owner gallery system (Powered by PhotoPost), and more. The site was launched in November of 2001 and has continued to amaze me with the growth and dedication of the users.
